Best Bangkok Parks For A 5K

Even in one of the busiest cities in the world, these parks somehow create space to breathe.

Staying fit while travelling matters.

It keeps your routine grounded, clears your head, and helps you feel good wherever you are in the world.

Even as a nomad, whether I’m somewhere for a week or a few months, there’s almost always somewhere to get my steps in and clock that 5K.

In Bangkok, two of the best are Lumphini Park and Benjakitti Park (also known as Benchakitti Park).

Because of the daytime heat, I’d always recommend going early in the morning or later in the evening once the sun has gone down.

I usually run in the evening.

Put your headphones in, get your favourite running playlist on, and it becomes one of the best ways to experience the city.

What makes these parks so special is the buzz and the energy.

It’s hard to fully describe, but there’s something about the atmosphere.

A buzz like no other.

People running, walking, stretching, cycling, cooling down, chatting, and moving through the city together.

Even in one of the busiest cities in the world, these parks somehow create space to breathe.

Lumphini Park

My number one spot is Lumphini Park.

Not just in Bangkok.

It’s genuinely my favourite place to run anywhere in the world.

One full lap is around 2.5km, which makes it perfect if you want something simple and structured.

Two laps gives you an easy 5K.

The route is smooth, central, and always full of life.

There’s a real energy and rhythm to Lumphini that makes every run feel good.

More than that, it’s been a massive part of my own journey abroad.

It’s a place I’ve visited hundreds of times during my years living in and spending time in Bangkok.

Yes, it helped me stay physically fit.

But mentally, it’s been just as important.

It became a place to reset, think clearly, and find space in the middle of city life.

It’s also incredibly easy to access.

The closest stations are Sala Daeng BTS, Silom MRT (Exit 1), and Lumphini MRT (Exit 1), all of which bring you to different sides of the park.

There are multiple entry and exit points, so whichever station you choose simply changes where you start.

If you visit during daylight, keep an eye out for the monitor lizards that roam around the lake and pathways.

Lumphini Park is open every day from 4:30am to 9:00pm.

Please note that cycling is only permitted in the park between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

Benjakitti Park

The second spot is Benjakitti Park, which offers a slightly different but equally special energy.

It feels more open, more modern, and the 2km+ lake loop is fantastic for running.

Benjakitti Park is also easy to access.

Queen Sirikit MRT (Exit 3) brings you to one end of the park, while Sukhumvit MRT and Asok BTS sit side by side and are only a short walk from the other entrance.

The Forest Park section attached to Benjakitti is also absolutely worth visiting, even if you’re not planning to run.

Go there around sundown.

The greenery, elevated walkways, and the Bangkok skyline rising behind the trees make it one of the best places in the city for a walk, sunset photos, and simply slowing down.

Benjakitti Park is open every day from 4:30am to 9:00pm.

And if you want the best of both, the Green Mile lets you connect the two -  click here to view the 1.7km route.

For me, both parks are proof that cities can give you more than movement.

They can become part of your journey.
