My Two Favourite Running Spots in KL
Both of these spaces are more than just running routes.
One of the things I love most about Kuala Lumpur is that despite being a fast-paced capital city, it offers some fantastic green spaces to escape the traffic, clear your head and enjoy a run.
Whether you’re passing through for a few days or staying for several months, having a reliable running route can make a huge difference to your routine.
For me, there are two standout spots that I’ve returned to time and time again: Perdana Botanical Gardens and KLCC Park.
Perdana Botanical Gardens
If you’re looking for a place that doesn’t feel like you’re in the middle of a major city, this is it.
The Perdana Botanical Gardens offer a peaceful escape surrounded by greenery, winding paths and plenty of open space.
One full lap of the main route is just under 2.5 kilometres, making it easy to tailor your run to whatever distance you’re chasing.
The park is generally open from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and 5:30 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday, giving you plenty of flexibility whether you prefer early morning runs or later evening sessions.
I always preferred coming here earlier in the morning or around sundown when the temperature was a little cooler.
The atmosphere is calm, the scenery is beautiful and it’s the kind of place that brings a sense of clarity after a busy day.
Keep an eye out for the monitor lizards that roam the gardens too.
Spotting one during a run never gets old.
Even if running isn’t your thing, it’s equally enjoyable for a walk.
The peaceful surroundings make it one of the best places in the city to slow down and simply enjoy the journey.
The Perdana Botanical Gardens are easily accessible via train, with the nearest stop being the MRT Muzium Negara Station, which is within a short walking distance of the park.

KLCC Park
For a completely different experience, KLCC Park is hard to beat.
Located right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur beneath the iconic Petronas Towers, this park combines city energy with a surprisingly comfortable running environment.
The dedicated rubber running track stretches for just under 1.5 kilometres per lap and feels fantastic underfoot.
My favourite time to run here is after sunset.
As the city lights come alive and the towers illuminate the skyline, the park takes on a unique atmosphere.
There are usually plenty of other runners around, creating a lively but never overcrowded environment.
Put your headphones in, settle into your rhythm and enjoy the freedom of moving through one of Southeast Asia’s most impressive urban settings.
The views alone are more than enough to keep you motivated.
Like the Perdana Botanical Gardens, KLCC Park is also a great place for a walk, but the experience couldn’t be more different.
Here you’re surrounded by the energy of the city rather than hidden away from it.
KLCC Park is also highly accessible via Kuala Lumpur’s transit system, with the most direct stop being KLCC LRT Station on the Kelana Jaya Line.
From the station, it’s just a short walk straight into the park beneath the Petronas Towers.
KLCC Park is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., offering visitors access to its green spaces and walking paths throughout the day and evening.

A Final Thought
Both of these spaces are more than just running routes.
They’re places to improve your fitness, build consistency, and reset your mindset while travelling.
If you’re looking to get into fitness on the road, they can quietly become part of your routine — helping you clear your head, find structure, and even reinvent small parts of your lifestyle along the way.
There’s a certain freedom that comes from lacing up your trainers in a new city and just following the path.
And in Kuala Lumpur, these two spots make that journey an easy one to start.
